Looking Good

The natural look is all about blending in, but looking great. It's not over the top - just very natural and suitable for every occasion.

You will see that we have use the same colour wig as Lucy’s own hair, this helps keep to the natural look.

Lucy wore simple clothes that matched her age, and we had a few different styles with her hair.

This is a very relaxed look – but as with all make-up – practice makes perfect.

You will need cleansing lotion and cotton wool pads.

Make sure you have a good, close, shave - get as close as possible. If you can, use a wet razor as this gets the closest shave, but be careful not to cut yourself – take your time.

After you have shaved, let you skin settle for a little while, about 5-10 minutes.

Then ensure you have good lighting – try and get a balanced, even light all over your face.

Then cleanse your skin to make sure that it is nice and clean – all around your face – your nose, chin, forehead and cheeks.

Then pat it dry to leave you a nice clean face ready for make-up to begin.

You will need two brushes - one to apply the foundation and one to buff the foundation - and a foundation that matches you skin tone. (WEB REFERENCE)

The foundation is the first part of giving your face a smooth, natural finish, on which to apply the rest of your make-up. Take your time.

You will need to apply foundation all over your face – your beard area and upper lip, neck and cheeks, and also your forehead. Avoid the eye area and eye sockets as we will cover this in the next stage when we touch up with concealer.

Always go downwards when brushing – do not go against any hair growth..

Focus on jaw line and beard area, and blend in the rest of the face. After the first full coverage, begin buffing it in – giving a nice natural finish, and removing any streaks or irregularities.

Buff it right into the skin – this gets rid of any streak marks.

Carefully look out for areas of shadow – most people aren’t lucky enough not to have any beard shadow, so build up where nec...

You will need a concealer brush and a concealer that is slightly darker than the foundation.

Look out for areas where you need to add some more coverage * – especially around the beard area. Apply concealer with the brush by buffing it again – this takes away final darkness or shadow.

Under eyes are concealed now. Use a concealer not foundation – its takes away greyness – if you use foundation you find it tends to gather to much around the eyes, this because concealer tends to be thinner and finer.

Then with the eye socket – you can just use the brush to roll on the concealer and then buff it in again.

For this stage you will need a powder brush and some powder to match your foundation.

You need the powder to set the foundation and take away the sheen and shine. (We are using Studio Fix by MAC.)

This is quite gentle – so brush down all over the face lightly. This sets the foundation and gives you the flawless finish.

Cover over everywhere – even your eye sockets this time.

You will need a brush and your bronzer or blusher. You will also need your powder and brush (from the previous stage), to blend in to finish.

Start just below you cheek bone and take it right up to your hair line. Blend the bronzer in and around with your brush. Make sure you get a nice even finish and balanced on both sides of your face.

Then contour under your jaw line – this has the subtle effect of reducing the size of your jaw and gives you a more feminine face. Again blend this in carefully.

Finally, soften the bronzer by gently brushing over it again, with your powder.

You will need two tones of eye shadow – we are using a dark and pale brown and eye shadow brushes. We are also applying a base paint to enhance the colours – you will need a separate brush for this.

We are using a brown palette because this keeps the appearance natural and softer.

Firstly, we are covering the eyelids with paint – blend up, but not too high, to cover the eye lids. This provides the based to build the colour on.

Using the brush, apply colour the outer corner – this is the darker colour. We will use a darker colour in the corner and lighter colour as we work inward – this will open the eye and give a natural look. You can use any colour you wish, just keep the darker colour in the outer corner.

Now blend the colour up and slightly inwards – but don’t take it all the way onto the lid.

When you form facial expressions the light will bounce of the lighter colour on the lid.

Now start with the lighter colour and apply to the eyelid – blend this into the dark...

Now for eyeliner - This helps define your eye. You need a fine, angled, brush – and you can use either liquid eye liner or eye shadow. We are using a liquid eye liner.

You need to sweep the liner along the top of the eye – don’t start in the inside corner, but about ¼ of the way in. You need to extend the line to just beyond the outside corner of your eye.

If you have problems applying it all in one smooth sweep, you can also dab it on gently – take your time and dab. Then carefully join up.

You get the best results with the brush, but can you use eye liner pencil too, as it’s a little easier until, with practice, you become competent.

We will do the eyeliner on the bottom of the eye after we have applied the masquara.

Moving onto the lashes. We are going to curl them using eyelash curlers before we apply masquara.

You will need some eyelash curlers, some masquara and a masquara brush, remember most masquaras come with a brush anyway. We are using a very dark brown, nearly black, masquara on Lucy.

To curl your lashes – look down and place the lashes in the curlers – close it. Then squeeze and hold the curlers for a few seconds and release.

Now with masqurara the trick is get the lashes fully covered.

Start in the middle of your eye on your top eye lashes – then pull the brush up to the tip of you eye lashes. The movement is backwards forwards and up to get that total coverage.

Work your way across both upper eye lashes.

Build it up in the outer corner – don’t worry about putting too much on – just make sure it doesn’t clot.

Now work the masquara lightly on the bottom lash. You don’t need as much on the bottom lashes – the top

You will need an eyeliner pencil. Try and keep this the same colour as the masquara for that natural look.

We are just going to touch Lucy’s lower eye with liner. We are going to use a pencil this time. We are not going to take it all the way in – about half way to the outer edge. This will produce a nice natural look and help open the eye.

We are then going to use a hard brush to blend it – again softening the look and keeping it natural and smokey.
